Chanda Cares™: A Biography of a Life of Service and Inspiration

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Chanda’s life journey is a testament to dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. From an early age, she demonstrated an innate love for people, a passion that would shape her future and inspire countless lives. Educated at Texas Southern University, a historically Black institution in Houston, Chanda’s academic foundation nurtured her drive to make a difference in her community and beyond.

In her early career, Chanda’s calling as an educator led her to become a first-grade teacher in the Archdiocese of Houston. With boundless energy and an infectious enthusiasm for learning, she touched the lives of many young students, instilling in them a love for education and a sense of possibility. Her deep connection with children laid the groundwork for her later work as an author and advocate for families facing adversity.

For 17 years, Chanda worked as a dedicated caregiver, providing compassionate support to those in need. This experience fueled her desire to raise awareness about the challenges faced by caregivers, especially those in underserved communities, and further deepened her commitment to service.

Married for over three decades, Chanda’s family has been a central pillar of her life. As a wife, she has balanced her life with her role as a nurturer and caregiver, always ensuring that love and care are at the heart of everything she does.

Chanda is perhaps best known for her work as the co-founder of the 501(c)(3) Brigance Brigade Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The foundation honors the legacy of her husband, who was diagnosed in 2007 with ALS , and continues to provide vital resources, education, and advocacy to those battling this devastating disease.

As an inspirational speaker, Chanda shares her journey of resilience, compassion, and hope, offering encouragement and wisdom to audiences around the world. Her powerful words and uplifting presence resonate deeply with those who hear her story. She is also the author of CHAN IS A CAREGIVER®, a children’s book collection that provides young readers with an understanding of caregiving and empathy in a way that is both accessible and inspiring.

In addition to her work as an author and speaker, Chanda hosts Chanda Cares™, a television show dedicated to promoting kindness, caregiving, and community outreach. Through her show, Chanda shares stories of people making a difference and offers practical advice on how to live a life of service to others.

Throughout her diverse career, Chanda has remained focused on one core mission: to love and serve people. Whether through her writing, speaking, caregiving, or her work with the Brigance Brigade Foundation, she has touched the hearts of many and continues to inspire those around her to live with compassion, purpose, and grace.
